How we do things
Silver Eagles Farm is
concerned with producing horses and ponies with the conformation,
disposition and up-bringing to be happy, healthy and sound horses. All
breeding stock is specifically selected with the characteristics of
superb legs, balanced proportions and lovely movement. Horses and
ponies live in bands in 6-8 acre pastures, with stallions, broodmares
and foals remaining together for proper socialization of the youngsters
and to allow them to develop confidence, as well as strong legs and
hooves as they grow. They are outside 24 - 7, with access to run-in
sheds to escape wind and insects as they like. As a result, Silver
Eagles ponies and horses are hardy and do not develop unnatural
behaviors such as cribbing. Stallions exhibit watchfulness over their
mares and foals, however they are friendly and tractable with visitors
who come to see them and their families. Young horses and ponies are
(perhaps overly) enthusiastic to welcome anyone who comes bearing
carrots or a friendly pat. Silver Eagles ponies are normally started
under saddle at the age of three to give them sufficient time to mature,
both mentally and physically before undertaking the stress of riding.
Positive response training methods are used to accustom them to new
equipment and concepts.
